What Will Happen If the Ocean Disappears?
Earth is a planet that holds a lot of life, starting with human animals and plants.
There are various parts that support life from the sun, air, land and sea. The ocean on earth is one of the most vital parts of life, for 2 main reasons.
1. Regulating the Temperature of the Earth
First, the oceans have the function of absorbing and distributing solar radiation, which helps regulate temperatures throughout the world. If the ocean disappears, the heat from the sun will roast the equator, but it will barely carry energy to the poles.
Sea water on earth absorbs all the sun's energy, which produces currents that circulate warmth from the tropics to the north and south, and brings cold temperatures back to the equator. This cycle ensures that no place is too hot to live or survive. And bring warmth to cooler areas in various parts of the earth.
Because water has a high heat capacity, so it can absorb a lot of heat without a large temperature rise. If the ocean disappears, the land will absorb all the heat, so most places will become barren like a desert.
2. Water Cycle
The second function is as a means of water recycling, or the water cycle that moves water from the ocean into clouds, returns to the mainland through rain, and returns to the ocean. When the water heats up, they will evaporate and change into clouds in the sky.
The cloud is actually a collection of water vapor from the sun's rays in the sea, rivers, lakes, and water gathering places. It's like a puff of smoke that comes out when we open the lid of a pot whose water is boiling. As the hot air rises to the top, he finally encounters cold air.
When united with cold air, clouds will release heat. And that heat is what we feel before it rains. When all the heat is released, we will feel the air getting cold, and that's when the rain will fall. This is very beneficial for the earth, because it can make temperatures more evenly distributed throughout the earth's surface.
Counted as the ocean dominates as 96.5% of the amount of water on earth, we also have lakes, icebergs, underground water, and rivers that still flow. With rising temperatures and without a water cycle, rain will become a very rare phenomenon, which causes water to slowly disappear from the face of the earth.
Water will not be the only resource that will be reduced. 50% -70% of oxygen in our atmosphere is actually produced by marine plants. But with the extinction of marine plants, oxygen in our atmosphere will quickly decrease, while the amount of carbon dioxide that is not recycled more and more.
With the death of many plants on earth caused by lack of water and high temperatures. In a period of several hundred years, oxygen in our atmosphere will no longer be enough for anyone to breathe. Forests throughout the world will begin to burn, which causes the production of carbon dioxide in enormous quantities.
This can cause global warming which is very severe, not even a single living thing can survive its temperature. The only place that can be expected as a place to live is Antarctica. But that hope will only last for a short time, given the diminishing supply of food, and high temperatures can melt Antarctica in just a matter of months.
Even so, hope for life on earth still remains. During the formation of the earth, water was carried by ice comets and asteroids that crashed into the earth. This can be the only hope, although it may take millions of years to happen again.
Those are the things that will happen if the ocean really disappears from the earth, isn't that terrible?
